Spies 8: The Bribe

Spies 8 is about to begin! The successful mafia game series is back for its eighth installment, this time taking place in early June. More than 150 people over 7 games and 4 years have had an incredible time playing my Mafia games. If you are looking for a unique, intense, and creative mafia or werewolf game by an experienced host – this is it!


So what is Spies? Spies takes the standard game of Mafia to a whole new level with its own message board, engaging videos, AIM conversations, elaborate story eliminations, intense gameplay, a unique and dedicated cast of people, and amazing twists. It even releases episodes afterwards!


Spies is just my name for the game known as Mafia or Werewolves. It is a popular game played on college campuses, at parties, and online. Spies is an online social game where the players are pitted against undercover Spies from within their own group. Each round, the Spies try and deceive the Citizens (non-spies) while the Citizens try and root out the traitors in their group. The game ends when one side is eliminated.

In Spies 8, players will bribe the opposing team to do things for them using my money. (players do not use their own money). As an example, the Spies might bribe a Citizen to surrender their vote for one round in the middle of the game. The Spies would then get to cast it themselves anonymously. Would you accept $5 to surrender your vote to the Spies for one round? $10? What other bribes might be offered?

For more information, check out this post on the message board which gives complete details. I am not one to make huge, game-changing twists, as I think mafia is very interesting by itself already, so none of the bribes will shift power drastically.


Spies 8 will feature:

• An opening video introducing each player and the story. A visual leaderboard that is updated frequently. Cute short stories posted at every night kill and unique game events. Live vote counts in chat happen every 5 days.
  
• A fast-paced, active game that lasts from 7-9 weeks. Each Night is usually 2 days and each Day is 3 days.
  
• A great game for viewers to enjoy! Many viewers have told me how much they enjoyed getting into Spies as it went along and following along with the updates. Viewers will be able to follow along with eliminations the day they happen. They can read the Imprisonment stories and the Exile chats. A leaderboard will be posted and updated with all the players and their current status. Viewers will be able to watch and talk about the game.
  
• A game played using characters to spice up the game. (Why do people play with characters?) All players will be given a new AIM name and a proboards account to play Spies with. They will log on this new AIM name and use the proboards account to play. This means that no one has predetermined friendships, alliances, or knows how each other plays, nor can they reference other games for an advantage. All identities will be kept a secret leading to new relationships.
  
• Unique roles, captivating twists, and entertaining gameplay by an experienced host.

Spies 6: The Union has begun! We've had an incredible first 24 hours in the game with already so much taking place. Nearly all 32 players have checked in, received their alignments, and logged onto their AIM name to chat with each other.

Of course the fun didn't stop there... at the live opening chat that night, tons of surprises were revealed. You can read all about them by checking out this summary. It included power grabs, alignment surprises, and the reveal of a mysterious blueprint (see below).

Episode 3 was Future Week ~ a fantastic series of events all revolving around the future. Players from future games such as spies9felix and spies11jane invaded the game - haunting and teasing the players before challenging them in a nine-part Future Challenge. At the very end the Spies 6 team came from behind to defeat the future team and win prizes for the Citizens.

But that wasn't all... players also wrote down juicy messages in a Time Capsule that will be unearthed a month later after Imprisonment #9. What secrets and revealing things did the players write in these messages? Only the future will tell...

The game has calmed down a bit since the future events but Episode #4 featured a second shift to the voting twist of Spies 6. The twist of Spies 6 is that, on occasion, players will use different voting systems to determine who is Exiled. In Episode #2 they players used +/- voting, where they could give a +1 Exile vote and a -1 Save vote. In Episode #4 they used Instant-Runoff Voting a system used in some real-world elections. It provided a close vote which you can see by going to this link:

Overall the Citizens have taken a strong lead, capturing 4 Spies in just 6 Exiles. With only 4 Spies remaining out of the 22 players, do they have a chance to come back? Find out and watch Spies 6 as it goes along! =)

Lots of interesting stuff going on in Spies 7! We've just entered the merge, and our final 22 players are now searching for 4 remaining Spies. We've had Grenade Battles, alignment surprises, three Spies kicked to the curb, and even our very own Dick Tracy! Here are some of the highlights of the past week:

Tracy claimed to have a dubious power role which punished people for voting her. Not long after, she recanted the role and claimed to be "Dick Tracy." Her real role?
